”Kagahachiman-Okiagari Doll”
Folk crafts（Mingei） of the Kaga region in Ishikawa Prefecture.
It is said that these dolls were originally created to pray for the happiness of children. In Kaga, a region famous for its beautiful Kaga Yuzen kimonos, it is believed that these dolls were particularly displayed with the hope that girls, wearing beautiful kimonos, would grow up beautifully.
Additionally, “okiagari” means to rise up again after falling or facing hardships, so it has become a custom in this region to gift these dolls when a child is born. These dolls are adorable as they also rise up and smile again even if they tumble over.

この人形は子どもの幸せを祈って作られたのが始まりで、美しい着物、加賀友禅で有名な加賀地方ですが、特に女の子が美しい着物を着て、美しく育つことを願って飾られたという言い伝えがあったそうです。
また、「起き上がり」は何度失敗しても、苦難があっても立ち上がるという意味があり、そのため、この地方では古くから子どもが誕生した時のお祝いには、この人形を贈ることが習わしになったのだそうです。
まさに強く美しくを表しており、実際にこの人形も転がっても立ち上がって、元の姿でほほえんでくれるのでとても愛らしく、心癒されます。
